TWO Ingredient Natural Carpet Sprinkle

Hello!
So, this past weekend we replaced our master bathroom toilet. Why would we replace the toilet you ask? Because we had a very stinky leak (EWW, it smelled so bad, y'all!!). The leak made our whole bathroom smell like a public men's room; Yes, I know what they smell like! That's an embarrassing story involving a baseball stadium bathroom. So, I decided to make a batch of my homemade carpet sprinkle to put on the carpet before I vacuumed it up. Side note: I have no clue why the person that built our house put CARPET in the bathroom, but that is a different gripe for a different day! Since I was making the sprinkle anyway I wanted to do a tutorial to share with y'all. I have been using this stuff for several years and I love it! It's 100% natural, so I feel safe using it with a little one and the dogs in the house. For a long time I used the pre-made carpet sprinkle you could buy at the store, but for one thing, it was expensive and for another, it had so many different chemicals in it. Enjoy!

Let's get started!

 You'll Need:
  • An empty Parmesan cheese container or anything that has a sprinkle lid
  • baking soda ( I used a 16 oz. box)
  • essential oils

I start out by adding about half of the baking soda into my cheese container super fancy carpet sprinkle container.
Next I add about 10-20 drops of essential oils on top of the baking soda. I like mine strong, so just give it a sniff after every five drops or so. This carpet sprinkle is super customizable! I used a mix of lemon and sweet orange oil this time, but I've used peppermint, a pre-made holiday mixture (synergy), lavender, etc. The oils just give the sprinkle a nice smell, but the superstar is the odor eliminating baking soda.

Finally, I add the remaining baking soda. You could shake it or stir it; I've done both and it seems to combine better when I stir it. Just pop the lid on and you're ready to go!

Thanks for stopping by and stay fresh (I couldn't help myself, I'm corny like that)! :)

House Update Roundup

Hi!
Life on Pinedale Road has been really busy lately! If you follow my personal Facebook page, you have probably seen the DIY updates we have completed up until now. If you haven't, you're in luck! I wanted to do a roundup of all the home projects Ben and I have done so far, since I just started the blog. We have several ongoing projects, but for now, I'm just going to post finished mostly finished ones.
I wish I had taken better pictures so that I could give you detailed instructions on how we got the look that we were going for from start to finish on each project. Anyway, I'll quit rambling and get started!

.....BARSTOOLS.....
Before

After

I am in love with these stools! We actually have four, but for some reason we only took pictures of two. My sister-in-law refinished some of the same chairs before us, so we knew they'd look awesome!

My mother in law snatched these up for me FOR FREE!!  The university she works at was throwing them away! What?!

We started by taking the seat and back off. Then we sanded, stained and put a couple of coats of polyurethane on them. We wiped down the metal parts really well and spray painted them with an oil rubbed bronze spray paint and protective clear coat. I know these were super simplistic directions, once we start a new project I'll give product details and step by step instructions.

....FOYER....
Before (Again, taking before pics was an afterthought, clearly! Thanks for the help, Mom and Dad.)

I love how crisp and clean the foyer looks now! We painted it Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams and added crown molding. The color before was just a little dark for my taste. I would love to eventually redo the flooring, but for now this works. We also modified the preexisting fixture (not pictured) by taking off the lantern casing, spraying it oil rubbed bronze and adding an orb I found at T.J. Maxx.

....GARAGE DOORS....
Before (Whole shot)

After (close enough anyway)

Before

After
The garage makeover is probably one of my favorite projects so far!! I am obsessed!! This took a whole weekend to complete, but it was SO worth it. Actually, it has taken a little longer since we still haven't put the sealant on yet. We still need to refinish the front door so I will do a separate blog post with detailed instructions on how to do a faux wood finish very SOON!

....LAUNDRY ROOM....
Before

After
This redo is another one of my favorites (okay, maybe they're ALL my favorite)! I love the shelves and table top! This was definitely a budget friendly redo since we already had the support brackets and found the paint (1 gallon) for $9. The table top is made up of three separate boards (2x10s and 2x12s) that we put together,  stained and sealed (like 3 times). I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I hope you enjoyed seeing what we've been up to on Pinedale Road! Stay tuned for more DIY projects!
